11 August 2011 | United States Capitol Visitors Center, Washington, DC
Center on Global Counterterrorism Cooperation founder and Co-director, Alistair Millar spoke to staff members from Senate and House of Representatives working on international security issues. Mr. Millar started with an overview of the Center's work in South Asia to provide training for the region’s police officers, prosecutors, and judges on issues related to interview and interrogation, the handling of sensitive evidence relevant to national security concerns, and effective implementation of domestic counterterrorism legislation. He also detailed the Center’s efforts in East Africa, highlighting the development and training of a law enforcement network in IGAD member-states with the goals of fostering communication, developing trust, and sharing the common vision of moving forward with a counterterrorism strategy based on the respect of human rights and the rule of law. Mr. Millar concluded by discussing the Center's project in East Africa to help strengthen the capacity of countries in the subregion in order to counter and prevent terrorism financing through targeted processes of cooperation and technical assistance. The meeting was convened under auspices of The Henry L. Stimson Center’s Security for a New Century project.
